Sharon Kim, DDS
Being an orthodontist has been a wonderful experience. It is so rewarding to be able to work in a field that makes me feel like I can make a difference in people’s lives. I truly love what I do. Every patient is so unique and interesting, and interacting with each patient makes every day new and exciting.
I treat patients of all ages, but it is a special treat to work with patients as they are growing up. Not only do I get to see how braces change their life by improving their confidence, I get a chance to be a positive influence in their life. My goal is to inspire the young ones to shoot for the stars. I believe that they can achieve whatever they want, as long as they have a goal that they are actively working towards.
I am committed to always giving each of my patinets my very best. I give my patients my undivided attention and the highest quality orthodontic care available, and treat them as I would want members of my own family to be treated. I take great pride in my work and believe strongly in giving my patients honest and personalized treatment.
Education
I feel that I am a lifelong learner, and I will never stop learning new ideas and improving upon old ones. I began my education at the University of California, Berkeley, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in molecular and cellular biology, with a special focus on neurobiology. I continued on to the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, earning my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2005. I graduated at the top of my class and had the honor of being invited to be a member of the Dental Honor Fraternity, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Next, I completed my education at the USC School of Dentistry Orthodontics Program, where I received my orthodontics training and a master’s degree in craniofacial biology in 2008.
I am a member of several professional organizations, including:
- American Dental Association®
- American Association of Orthodontists®
- Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists
Continuing education courses are an important part in keeping up to date with the newest techniques and research. The field is constantly changing and being improved, and as a practitioner I have to keep up with that to provide the best possible care for my patients. I will continue to attend CE courses and lectures and learn from my colleagues as long as I am practicing. I have extensive training and experience in Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) assisted orthodontics.
Office Life
My team is so special because they care so much about our patients and the practice. They have the same vision as I do – to provide quality care for the patients in a fun and friendly environment. Together, we work towards making each patient feel comfortable, as well as building a healthy and thriving practice where we can have a positive impact on patients in our community. We strive to treat every patient like a part of our family.
My staff is very honest and hardworking, and they thrive on the relationships that they build with our patients. They put extra time and effort into the practice, and they help me brainstorm ideas to make appointments a blast for our patients. They are very lively, and they like to joke around to make everyone in the office laugh.
We try to keep office visits as enjoyable and light-hearted as possible. It is the best feeling when patients tell their parents that they do not want to leave! We have cool flat-screen TVs where we play fun movies and TV shows, Nintendo DS’s that patients can borrow to play lots of games, and an iPad and Netbook that patients can borrow to browse the internet or play games. We also have a coffee station where parents and patients can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate whenever they please.
Outside the Office
My husband and I have three children, two daughters and one son. When I was growing up, I enjoyed singing, dancing, playing flute and piano, and reading. I was also a bit of a tomboy when I was growing up, so I loved playing video games and doing martial arts (Tae Kwon Do and Kendo). My favorite video game before having kids was League of Legends. Now my video games days are sadly over because I have three amazing kids that I’m constantly chasing around. Now in my free time, I love to spend time with my husband and my kids and watch them grow and make memories together. I also enjoy skiing, snowboarding, traveling, doing crafts with my children, and eating delicious food with my friends and family.
